This document will provide current status of PAU locations and protocol, procedures and safety measures for on campus activities.

*This policy assumes that Santa Clara County meets the State requirements for opening based on the Order of the Health Officer of the County of Santa Clara Phasing Dated June 21, 2021 Given Widespread Community Vaccination” which was amended by the “Order of the Health Officer of the County of Santa Clara Requiring use of Face Coverings Indoors By All Persons” Dated August 2, 2021.

CURRENT STATUS OF STAFF & PALO ALTO UNIVERSITY LOCATIONS

Updated Guidance for Fall 2021 from President O’Connor: 

We are planning to reopen the Calvin and Los Altos campuses on September 1, 2021. At that time any person who is not fully vaccinated and wishes to be on a PAU facility will need to attest to not being in compliance and agree to public health guidelines to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Please be aware that with PAU’s small classroom sizes and limited ability to offer socially distanced options, the university will likely not be able to accommodate unvaccinated individuals in classrooms. Additionally, all community members visiting a PAU facility will continue to be required to complete a daily health screening survey prior to arrival on campus.

Campus Status:

• Allen Calvin Campus – Open
• Los Altos Campus - Open. Patients are being seen via Teletherapy only.
• Stanford Campus – Refer to Stanford University’s COVID-19 page for the current status: https://humsci.stanford.edu/covid-19 . Students and Faculty are advised to reach out to the PsyD Office psydoffice@paloaltou.edu for specific PAU class information.

ON CAMPUS PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOL IN DETAIL

Being in Person at a PAU Facility in the Fall:

To ensure the health and safety of our PAU Community during the pandemic, the Department of Facilities will be hiring "Care Ambassadors" who will welcome and check-in anyone arriving on the Allen Calvin Campus.  When a Care Ambassador is present, they will greet people at the gate at the bottom of the hill at the entrance to the Calvin Campus and ask to see a mobile phone screenshot of their Approved Campus Health Survey for that particular day. If the Campus Health Survey has not been completed, they will be asked to turn around and complete the survey prior to entering campus. No one will be admitted without displaying a completed survey for that particular day to the Care Ambassador.

For ANYONE coming to campus (including visitors), the following steps MUST be completed before arriving on campus:

1. DAILY Health Screening Survey for each day you come to campus (the Link to Daily Survey can be found on the homepage of the MyPAU portal).
2. Wear a mask at all times while on campus.

For all staff, faculty and students, please be sure to complete the following steps, in addition to the health screening survey:

• ONE-TIME Vaccine Attestation Form (Link to One-Time Survey), indicating that you are fully vaccinated. Note: this is a new form originally sent out on 8/20/21, that everyone must complete.
• ONE-TIME online Covid safety training titled "Staying Healthy in a Changing Environment for Students on Campus". Please check your PAU email for the EverFi training link, sent on August 24, 2021 or log into your Everfi account via OneLogin. (approximately 20-25 minutes).

Being Remote in the Fall:

PAU community members and any visitors who are not fully vaccinated, and do not complete the above steps, will not be permitted at any of PAU’s locations. They will have to be fully remote through the fall quarter.

COVID-19 PREVENTION PROGRAM

• Refer to PAU’s COVID-19 Prevention Program for detailed information, pursuant to an Emergency Temporary Standard in place for COVID-19 (California Code of Regulations (CCR), Title 8, section 3205(c)). Prevention Program includes detailed information, including:

ENFORCEMENT OF PROCEDURES AND PROTOCOL

• Non-compliance issues should be directed to PAU Facilities’ emergency cell phone (1-650-492-3322) or by sending an email to facilities@paloaltou.edu, including as much identifying information as possible (name of person, date/time, and the location on campus)
• ​Failure to Comply:  We ask that all members of the PAU community respect each other and keep our community safe, especially the “front line workers” at PAU who are required to be on campus.
  ​> For students, any failure to comply with COVID-19 safety protocol will be reported to Student Affairs.
  >For staff and faculty, any failure to comply with COVID-19 safety protocol will be reported to Human Resources and the applicable division head.

COVID 19 CASES

COVID-19 Testing: The testing of PAU students, faculty and staff members, for COVID-19 will be deferred to County and State resources.

• Testing Information:
  • You may find a COVID-19 testing location near you by visiting the website of your local health department. For Santa Clara County, visit: www.sccfreetest.org.
  • The County of Santa Clara urges the public to get tested for COVID-19 when experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and whenever recommended by the California Department of Public Health’s Updated Testing Guidance.
     
  • What should I do while I'm waiting for test results?
    1. If you were in close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) of a person with COVID-19 and have no symptoms, then follow the Home Quarantine Steps while you are waiting for your test results.
    2.  If you were not in close contact with someone with COVID-19 and do not have COVID-19 symptoms, you just need to wait for your test results. You do not need to follow isolation or quarantine steps while you wait for your results.
    3. If you develop any COVID-19 symptoms, and they are new symptoms that you do not usually have in daily life, then you may have COVID-19 and you must follow the Home Isolation Steps, even if you are fully vaccinated.
    4. CDC recommends that anyone with any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 get tested, regardless of vaccination status or prior infection. If you get tested because you have symptoms or were potentially exposed to the virus, you should stay away from others pending test results and follow the advice of your health care provider or a public health professional.
        
• Who should get tested for a current COVID-19 infection CDC Guidelines:
  1. People who have symptoms of COVID-19.
  2. Most people who have had close contact (within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone with confirmed COVID-19.
     1. Fully vaccinated people with no COVID-19 symptoms do not need to be tested following an exposure to someone with COVID-19.
     2. People who have tested positive for COVID-19 within the past 3 months and recovered do not need to get tested following an exposure as long as they do not develop new symptoms.
  3. Unvaccinated people who have taken part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot physically distance as needed to avoid exposure, such as travel, attending large social or mass gatherings, or being in crowded or poorly-ventilated indoor settings.
  4. People who have been asked or referred to get tested by their healthcare provider, or state, tribal, local external icon, or territorial health department.

 >Positive COVID-19 Cases:

• PAU requires that any student, faculty, or staff member, after testing positive for COVID-19 (and who has been on campus within 14 days prior to or after taking the test), report their positive test result to PAU’s Human Resources department as soon as possible via email to hr@paloaltou.edu. The name of the individual will be kept confidential.
• Individuals are not permitted to return to campus until they have met the CDC criteria to discontinue home isolation.

 >Contact Tracing: If a PAU student, faculty, or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, contact tracing will be conducted by County and State resources. PAU’s Human Resources department will notify the Santa Clara County COVID Support Team and provide them with the information necessary for the Santa Clara County Health Department to conduct its contact tracing procedure.

Vaccination Information:

• To best support our reopening efforts, and based on the latest guidance from Santa Clara County, starting August 15, 2021, all PAU students, faculty, and staff will need to complete a Vaccine Attestation Form stating they are fully vaccinated in order to be on the premises of any PAU facility.^
• Employers are required to ascertain the vaccination status of their employees, with an option to decline to state. We ask employees to respond promptly to the HR Department should they receive a request.^
• According to the Centers for Disease Control, studies show that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19. Getting the vaccine will also help keep you from becoming seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19. The vaccine teaches our immune systems how to recognize and fight the virus that causes COVID-19. Vaccines cannot give you COVID-19. You may have side effects after vaccination. These are normal, and should go away in a few days.
• Vaccinated individuals may obtain a digital copy of their vaccination record by visiting The State of California website: https://myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov/
•  According to the Centers for Disease Control, studies show that COVID-19 vaccines are effective at keeping you from getting COVID-19.  Getting the vaccine will also help keep you from becoming seriously ill even if you do get COVID-19.  Vaccines cannot give you COVID-19.  You may have side effects after vaccination.  These are normal, and should go away in a few days.
•  People are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine, or 2 weeks after the single-dose Johnson & Johnson's Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine.

OTHER

>Employees with elevated risk factors for COVID-19, which can be found on the CDC's website, can request accommodations from PAU via email to the HR Department, hr@paloaltou.edu.
