Palo Alto University Awards Local Graduating High School Students

Palo Alto University (PAU) has continued its tradition of encouraging education in the community by awarding two local high school students a $2,000 Graduating Award. The awards were presented at ceremonies on June 1 and May 28, 2015 with more than 300 students, family, and teachers present at each event. The PAU Graduating Award was awarded to two outstanding candidates from Palo Alto High School and Gunn High School in the city of Palo Alto, CA. Learn more about the awardees:

Palo Alto High School - Hayley Poore

Hayley has been working with children from East Palo Alto since before her freshman year and has worked with an after-school tutoring program with Brentwood Academy and Ceasar Chavez Elementary school as well as a kindergarten readiness program.

Sport is a passion of Hayley's and as well as playing volleyball for four years she has also volunteered at the All-sports camp. Additionally, Hayley has been managing editor for The Viking.

Hayley is an outstanding example of someone determined to live to the PAU motto of 'Improving Lives' and we wish her the best as she moves on to college with plans to study Psychology.

Gunn High School - Fatima Lopez

Having really appreciated and valued the support she received at Terman Middle School, Fatima has been volunteering there since leaving, with particular dedication to the Focus on Success program.

With reference to the youngsters she works with, Fatima commented, "I would like them to feel like they have someone who they can talk to and get a sense of what High School is like from a person who was in their exact shoes just a couple of years back."

Fatima will move on to San Jose State where she plans to major in Criminology and she'll be the first member of her family to graduate High School and go on to University.

Fatima is another fine example of the 'Improving Lives' motto in action.

 

PAU is very proud to provide Graduating Senior Awards to the two high school graduates and honor students who have helped to improve lives in the local community. PAU congradulates all of the family members and friends in the awards ceremony audience supporting these very special young people.
