PAU Student Club Presents Speaker Series on Trauma

Palo Alto University’s student trauma club, the Association of Traumatic Stress Studies (ATSS), is presenting a speaker series featuring six speakers who are experts in the field of trauma. Two speakers each quarter will present one-hour ‘grand rounds’ on a topic of their choice related to trauma, including foundational concepts, current assessment approaches, and evidence-based treatment of trauma in diverse populations. The series will take place starting September 26 at PAU’s Gronowski Center, 5150 El Camino Real, Los Altos, room C15. 

Organizers aim to bridge the gap in science and practice by educating and empowering students to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals, families, and communities affected by trauma. The program also engages the local community of practicing psychologists with Palo Alto University by extending an invitation to attend a series of CEU granting lectures at no cost. Students as well as community clinical psychologists are eligible for one CEU for each speaker presentation. The series will be video recorded and posted on the ATSS website and offered to PAU online students via the Zoom platform.

ATSS provides workshops, guest lectures, and opportunities for involvement in social action initiatives and professional conferences for students interested in the role of trauma in psychological research and practice. The organization supports the trauma emphasis at PAU.

October 24, 2018, 12pm–1pm: Dr. Craig Rosen, deputy director, Dissemination and Training Division, National Center for PTSD

January 23, 2019, 12pm–1pm: Dr. Shannon Wiltsey-Stirman, research staff psychologist, Women's Health Sciences Division, National Center for PTSD, and formerly acting deputy director, Dissemination and Training Division, National Center for PTSD

February 20, 2019, 12pm–1pm: Dr. Marylene Cloitre, associate director of research, Dissemination and Training Division, National Center for PTSD, and research professor of psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry, New York University Langone Medical Center

April 17, 2019, 12pm–1pm: Speaker to be confirmed

May 15, 2019, 12pm-1pm: Dr. Alli Feduccia, clinical data scientist, Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) Public Benefit Corporation
