PAU Welcomes Commencement Speaker, S. Kent Butler, PhD

S. Kent Butler, PhD

  S. Kent Butler, PhD, will deliver PAU’s commencement address to the Class of 2022 at an in-person ceremony on Saturday, June 18.   Dr. Butler is a professor of counselor education at the University of Central Florida and former Chief Equity, Inclusion and Diversity Officer and Faculty Fellow for Inclusive Excellence. He holds a PhD in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Counseling Psychology from the University of Connecticut. He is a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and Nationally Certified School Counselor (NCSC).   At the national level, Dr. Butler currently serves as President of the American Counseling Association (ACA). He is an ACA Fellow and hosts the ACA weekly vodcast, “The Voice of Counseling.” In 2020, he was selected as a fellow within the National Association of Chief Diversity Officers in Higher Education’s Chief Diversity Officer Fellows Program (NADOHE-CDOFP) where he mentored early career Chief Diversity Officers.   Previously, he served as President of the Association for Multicultural Counseling and Development (AMCD) and was a member of the committee that produced the Multicultural Social Justice Counseling Competencies (MSJCC). He was also a representative within the ACA Governing Council from 2015 to 2018.   Dr. Butler’s research and academic interests lie in the areas of multicultural and international counseling, social justice, mentoring, counseling work as it relates to African American males, group counseling, and school counseling.   PAU is pleased and honored to have Dr. Butler speak at the 2022 Commencement ceremony!
