Biography:

Dr. Victoria Liou-Johnson received her BA in American Literature from the University of California, Santa Cruz, with emphasis in Native American studies. She completed a MS in Clinical Psychology and Clinical Gerontology at Notre Dame de Namur University before enrolling in Palo Alto University's PhD program. She completed her PhD in clinical psychology with neuropsychology emphasis at Palo Alto University. She completed an internship in integrated primary care and neuropsychology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, a postdoctoral residency at the VA Pacific Islands Healthcare System in the outpatient PTSD, community living center, and outpatient neuropsychology clinics. Dr. Liou-Johnson then worked in a primarily indigenous population serving, federally qualified healthcare center, prior to returning to research at the VA Palo Alto as an advanced research fellow.

Dr. Liou-Johnson’s research has not only been focused on the neural correlates and cognitive outcomes of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and neurodegenerative disease and non-invasive treatment modalities (e.g., rTMS, VR), but also on racial/ethnic and gender outcome differences, barriers to care, and health (in)equity. Her research utilizes interdisciplinary collaboration (e.g., neuroscience, neuroimaging, medicine, neurology, social work) to explore these topics. As a researcher and clinician, she is particularly interested in the translational implications and implementation of her research to improve current treatments and outcomes, especially for underserved populations.

Dr. Liou-Johnson is licensed in multiple states and maintains a small private telehealth practice, which focuses on culturally conscious and culturally appropriate trauma treatment for Indigenous and underserved populations. In addition to clinical and research work, she also enjoys mentoring students and trainees from underrepresented groups through various professional societies and teaching in graduate clinical psychology programs.
