The live professional training program is presented by Staci A. Hayes, PhD.

This program will cover the basic information that mental health professionals need to know about the Metaverse and provide opportunities to discuss how the application of mental health can be instilled with inclusion and sensitivity.

Although not a new concept, the Metaverse has gotten a lot of attention lately as many wealthy and influential people have double-downed on its success. Most recently, Facebook has renamed its platform Meta positing that some are considering the Metaverse to be a game-changer. With so many of us still utilizing technology to see clients over zoom and work from home, the pandemic has created a very unique opportunity to explore the efficacy of this virtual future. Timing could not be more poignant for us to start having this conversation with ourselves and other mental health professionals about our ability to humanize this technological wonder. Can we provide mental health services in this space- Bring humanity, empathy, and therapeutic intent? You have mostly likely seen the Metaverse represented in both television and movies. Black Mirror, Westworld, Altered Carbon, Avatar, Inception, Iron Man, Matrix, Ready Player One, and Wreck-it Ralph have all showcased visual representations and imaginings of the Metaverse. As technology races to catch up to the vision and imagined concept of the Metaverse, we are given a unique and precious opportunity to instill a sense of hope, embrace a significant cultural shift, and rebuild the world for the people we serve.
