Biography:

Dr. Janet Negley is currently an adjunct professor at Palo Alto University, and instructs courses in the Masters and Ph.D. programs. After gaining a B.A. in Psychology from Stanford and an M.A. in Psychology with an MFCC emphasis from Lone Mountain College, Dr. Negley received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology in 1982.  She completed a post-doctoral externship at the Family Therapy Institute of Washington, D.C. with Jay Haley and Chloe Madanes. She returned to the Bay Area and began both private practice and her long affiliation as the Center Mental Health Consultant for the San Jose Job Corps.  Dr. Negley is particularly interested in disadvantaged, disenfranchised youth, multicultural therapy challenges, the art and practice of supervision and the emerging field of narrative therapies.  She is a frequent workshop presenter both locally and nationally, in subjects ranging from narrative therapy to how to set up a practicum program.

In the past, Dr. Negley has been part of research and therapy teams in centers for the developmentally delayed child, serving as clinical supervisor for the Zonta Children’s Center for eight years.  She has been part of the teaching and supervision faculty at the Pacific Graduate School of Psychology since 1991, including five years in a half time clinical faculty position. Currently, Dr. Negley directs two practicum intern programs at the San Jose Job Corps, one clinically based, with students providing assessment, triage and therapy services and one in which students learn and practice the guiding principles of mental health consultation.  On a personal note, Dr. Negley is the mother of two children and loves to write prose and poetry, choreograph dance and hike in her spare time.
