Palo Alto and Stanford Universities announce a one-day workshop on “Introduction to Compassion Focused Therapy”

The workshop will be held at the Schultz Cultural Arts Hall in Palo Alto on March 12, 2016 and the organizers are thrilled to have secured the attendance of Professor Gilbert who joins us from the University of Derby in the United Kingdom. Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) has been developed for sufferers of shame and self-criticism and combines a range of cognitive behavioural strategies and compassionate orientation.

The one-day workshop will introduce attendees to the basic concepts of CFT, using experiential and behavioural imagery practices. As well as earning 7 CE credits for psychologists, all participants will leave with a clearer understanding of:

  • The evolutionary model that underpins CFT
  • Complexities and conflicts within threat system processing
  • The role of attachment and affiliative mechanisms in affect change
  • Core CFT exercises including soothing rhythm breathing, body focussing
and various compassion visualization practices for oneself and others

The workshop will run from 8:30am to 6pm on Saturday March 12.  Excellent discounted rate for PAU Community: $60 instead of $175, essentially paying for food and space.
