San Jose Shooting

Thursday, May 27, 2021

Dear PAU Community,

Once again, I am writing to express our collective grief and sadness over yet another mass shooting – the horrific shooting of nine individuals at the Valley Transportation Authority yard in downtown San Jose. While every death is tragic, a mass shooting in our community is especially personal and I want to acknowledge the impact it may have on you and your loved ones. Along with the families and friends of the victims, we mourn this senseless loss of life and send our deepest condolences to all affected by this terrible act of violence.

As an institution devoted to mental health and wellness, we recognize the psychological and emotional impact each of these tragic events bring, all too frequently, to communities around the country. Our work in supporting those affected directly and indirectly by these violent acts is critical for healing to occur. I am so grateful to be part of a community that is committed to such important work.

As we grapple with this latest tragedy that is so close to home, please take care of you and yours, and extend support and grace to those who need it. For our students needing additional support, please reach out to the Office of Student Affairs at
