Registration Open for 3rd Annual Evidence-Based Teaching Conference

Thursday, April 18, 2019
Palo Alto University’s Faculty Learning & Instructional Development Department (L&ID) will present the third annual Evidence-Based Teaching Conference on Monday, June 17, 2019. This all-day event offers innovative learning opportunities for PAU faculty, aspiring students, and alumni. Members of the PAU community will have registration priority. Participants can join in-person at PAU’s Allen Calvin Campus or via Zoom.
“This year's theme is "Engaged & Inclusive Pedagogy," said Kristel Nazzal, Ph.D., PAU’s Director of Faculty L&ID and conference organizer. “The interactive workshops and presentations are designed to enable faculty and future instructors to enhance their teaching skills to improve the educational experience of students. As educators, we cannot expect all students to fit into the same mold and learn in the same manner. We need to continually expand our techniques and engage with students in ways that honor their experience and empower their development by embracing both technology and flexible curricula.”
The keynote presentation will be made by PAU President Maureen O’Connor, Ph.D., J.D., along with Patricia Brooks, Ph.D., and Jill Grose-Fifer, Ph.D., two colleagues from City University of New York (CUNY). They will discuss the philosophy and practice of student-centered teaching and share their own evolution as professors of this approach. Dr. O’Connor’s recent work has focused on evidence-based pedagogy development for doctoral students and on innovative mentoring strategies. Her recent book, Teaching Psychology: An Evidence-Based Approach was written with Drs. Brooks and Grose-Fifer and recently published by Wiley Press.
The conference agenda and specific details of the day's events will be emailed to registrants by June 3, 2019. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for those attending in-person. Attendance is free, though Registration (use PASSWORD: TEACHING) via Eventbrite is required. The conference will be held on Monday, June 17th, at Palo Alto University’s Allen Calvin Campus, 1791 Arastradero Road, Palo Alto, CA.
