Palo Alto University (PAU) is pleased to congratulate Raquel Newman, a long-time member of the PAU Board of Trustees, for receiving the Distinguished Volunteer Fundraiser Award at Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day, hosted by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Silicon Valley Chapter on Friday, November 21.

Raquel has served on the Board of Trustees at Palo Alto University from 1986 to the present, representing more than 30 years of dedication to the university and its presence in the community.  She served as board chair from 1995-2002. A strong leader, and has said she leads best by example.

A generous supporter of the University, Raquel aims to help the University achieve goals outlined in its strategic plan.  She strategizes with the school, not just thinking about the present, but rather ten years ahead.  She is a significant part of PAU history in building a thriving University. Raquel demonstrates her commitment to generosity and to moving the world forward through her volunteerism and charitable giving and gives in this way not to be recognized, but because she feels it is the right thing to do.

In a recent statement, PAU President Dr. Allen Calvin said:

“Raquel has played a vital role in developing high educational standards for Palo Alto University, and helping us to reach them year after year.  We are truly grateful for her support and participation, and I congratulate her on this prestigious and well-deserved honor.”
