Dr. Alvin Thomas Appears on Online Talk Show to Discuss Fatherhood in the Black Community

In February, Dr. Alvin Thomas appeared as a guest on Can We Have A Conversation  as an expert. The online talk show episode, filmed in Berkley, CA, focuses on fatherhood in the black community, father-son relationships and the challenges faced in these dynamics.

Dr. Thomas, Assistant Professor at Palo Alto University and the Co-Director of the Center for Excellence in Diversity  participated as the expert on the panel of four. Alvin’s work and research focuses on the risk and protective factors for African American boys who are situated in conditions that imperil them toward negative outcomes- specifically in father-son relationships. Stewart Perrilliat of Man 2 Man  moderates the open, heartfelt discussion.   "I think it is our responsibility to think about ‘what am I going to do different?’”, says Dr. Thomas. "What daring moves and changes am I going to start to employ when I have a family- not just for myself, but also for my child and community.”   Can We Have A Conversation is just one element of the recovery, intervention and educational programs of Man 2 Man, a Bay Area youth advocate group. The show is produced at Berkeley Community Media and is available both online and on some local cable carriers.
