PEDIATRIC BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CARE EMPHASIS

Robert D. Friedberg, Ph.D., ABPP, Professor Head of Emphasis Area. Friedberg is a licensed clinical psychologist and board certified diplomate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. His experience spans work in academic medical centers, inpatient psychiatric units, school settings, community mental health centers, partial hospitalization programs, residential institutions, schools, and private practice. Wendy Packman, J.D., Ph.D.,  is Professor of Psychology at Palo Alto University. Her interests are in pediatric psychology, psychology and the law, and psychological issues in vulnerable populations. Investigations have included seminal studies of the psychological effects of bone marrow transplant on donor and non-donor siblings and outcomes of psychological interventions for siblings of cancer patients. She has extensively studied and written on psychological issues faced by children and young adults with genetic disorders. An additional important area of Dr. Packman’s research is on sibling bereavement and continuing bonds, and the psychological sequelae of pet loss.

Matthew Cordova, Ph.D., Associate Professor (https://www.paloaltou.edu/faculty/matthew-cordova), completed undergraduate training at UC Davis, graduate training at the University of Kentucky, internship at VA Palo Alto, and postdoc at Stanford.  He teaches Health Psychology and CBT, co-directs the Early Intervention Clinic (www.eiclinic.org), and mentors students in health psychology and traumatic stress

Cindy Eaton, Ph.D. Practicum Coordinator and graduate advisor in the Office of Professional Advising and Development (OPAD), Clinical Supervisor at the Gronowski Clinic.  Dr. Eaton has worked as a clinical treatment provider at Kaiser Permanente and the VA Palo Alto in chronic pain, inpatient and outpatient substance use treatment, tele-health, and behavioral medicine. Further, she was the Health Behavior Coordinator for the VA Palo Alto Health Care System providing training in Motivational Interviewing and brief behavioral interventions to primary care staff.

Alvin Thomas, Ph.D.  Assistant Professor. Dr. Thomas is the director of the Ethnic Youth Risk and Resilience Lab at Palo Alto University http://youthdevelopment.paloaltou.edu. His work explores intersecting influences of peers, the neighborhood, family and individual factors in determining positive youth development; and the training gaps in related to father (nonresident) involvement in service provision to their children.

Eduardo Bunge, Ph.D., Professor. Dr. Bunge is director of the Children and Adolescents Psychotherapy and Technology (CAPT) Research Lab.
