M.A. Counseling Early Start

Guarantee Your Place in the Master's in Counseling Program

Juniors in Palo Alto University Bachelor's degree programs may apply for early admission and early participation in PAU's M.A. Counseling degree program in the online format.  This Master's program enables students to pursue licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) or a Licensed Practical Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Benefits of the Early Start program include:

  • Taking graduate courses during your senior year at no additional cost.
  • Reducing the expense and course load of a Master's degree.
  • Seamlessly matriculating into the Master's degree program upon graduation.
  • Choosing either the Marriage, Family and Child or Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization.
  • Advancing more quickly toward graduation and MFT or LPCC licensure.

How to Apply

To qualify for Early Start, students need to meet the following criteria:

Tuition cost savings

Students continue to pay the Bachelor's degree full‐time tuition (minus their financial aid package, if applicable) and there is no additional cost for the two Master's level courses taken during senior year.

Begin master's studies in your senior year

Once accepted into the Early Start program, students take the two-course, Master's level Psychopathology and Psychodiagnosis series beginning in the winter quarter of their senior year. These courses are taught in a weekly online videoconference class which does not conflict with the Bachelor's degree program schedule.

After successfully completing the requirements for the Bachelor's degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above and passing the two Master's level courses with a grade of B or better, admission to the Master's program is confirmed and unconditional. Students can matriculate as an M.A. Counseling student in the fall quarter following graduation from the PAU Bachelor's degree program.
