Join us for PAU’s First Annual Common Book Party discussing the book Make Your Home Among Strangers by Jeanine Capo Crucet. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether you have or have not read the book. We'll gather to eat a bit of Cuban food, chat about our own lives and experiences as well as the lives and experiences of the book's characters, and generally just relax and party.

Make Your Home Among Strangers Synopsis

A novel based loosely on the author's own experience of being a LatinX first-generation college student. It illuminates issues related to culture, socioeconomic status, young adult development, and diversity in higher education. Learn more.

PAU Common Book Initiative

Last summer PAU announced a new "common book" initiative for reading and discussion for the entire university. Common books are increasingly offered in higher education as a way to build community, spark discussions and provide a springboard for faculty, students, and staff to engage with new ideas and perspectives. Although Palo Alto University's focus is on education in psychology and counseling, we believe that literature and other forms of artistic expression have the potential to enhance and deepen our understanding of these issues beyond what we can learn from reading textbooks and academic articles.

Borrowing or Purchasing a Common Book

The PAU library has purchased several copies for the PAU community to borrow. You can buy the book in multiple formats via Amazon. If you have any questions, please contact Scott Hines, PAU Librarian: shines@paloaltou.edu.
