AAFP Workshop: Case Law: Criminal Responsibility

This workshop covers case law pertaining to criminal responsibility matters. Participants are provided case background, the legal issue, the court’s ruling, and the mental health implications for 13 landmark cases. This workshop is useful for practicing clinicians and those preparing for board certification.

Upon completion of this program, participants should be able to:

• Describe three bases for cases being heard by the Supreme Court and two judicial philosophies.
• Describe rulings in six criminal responsibility cases
• Describe three criminal responsibility standards (cognitive, ALI, “product” test)
