Commencement Participation Overview: Personal Slide, Regalia and Hooding

On Saturday, June 26, 2021, Palo Alto University (PAU) will be hosting a virtual commencement ceremony honoring the classes of 2020 & 2021. The ceremony will feature traditional commencement elements including speeches, the conferring of degrees and individual graduate recognitions. This year, PAU is using a graduate ceremony platform, StageClip, that allows graduates to submit a personal commencement slide to be shown during the ceremony.

Submitting a Personal Slide for Commencement - Beginning on June 8, graduates will receive an email from StageClip with a link to upload a photo, personal message, and/or 10 second video to create a personal slide. This is a great opportunity to thank your family, friends and faculty, or share future plans - it's your choice. Personal slides will be will be featured with fellow classmates during the ceremony. Watch the "How to" video.

Feel free to incorporate elements such as wearing regalia, moving the tassel or being hooded by a special someone.

Regalia - Wearing regalia is welcomed in your personal slide but not required. To order regalia, go to the Herff Jones website before May 1, 2021.

Another alternative is to use a Snapchat Lense that can be customized to include your gown, cap, and tassel colors that will be available to you via StageClip

Hooding for Master’s and Doctoral Graduates - The Hooding Ceremony is a special recognition for graduates receiving a final master's or doctoral degree. Students receiving their graduate degree from PAU would normally be hooded by their faculty advisor at an in-person ceremony.

Since this year’s event is virtual, we invite you to perform your own hooding ceremony by designating someone special to officially “hood” you to honor your achievement. For many participants, it symbolizes the culmination of graduate studies and the degree recipient's transition from student to colleague.
