Update on Immigration issues - Incoming F-1 Students

Hello incoming PAU international students,

I hope this email finds you, your family and friends all doing well.  I've communicated with most of you, but to introduce myself, I'm Lisa Harris and I am PAU's immigration specialist/International Student Services.
On July 6th, U.S. immigration (specifically the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), which is under Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE)) released a guidance that does not allow F-1 international students to be physically in the U.S. for an academic program that is all online.  Here is the actual guidance.  This has made national/international news.  Mis-information is out there, so please read this primary source and ask *me* if you have questions.  I also recommend you use NAFSA: Association of International Educators website for updates.
From our President Maureen O'Connor: "Please be assured we are working diligently to address this ICE guidance in the best way possible to support our students. We have been in touch with all of them, and Lisa Harris is working with us closely to ensure we do all that we can on impossibly short notice. Our fall planning has always involved a hy-flex model, but we are re-examining the details now to try our best to understand this new policy."
Please know that as soon as the final plan for Fall 2020 is announced, I will let you know.  In the meantime here are some important resources:
For those of you outside the U.S. who require an F-1 visa to enter the U.S. (Canadian citizens do not), most U.S. visa services are still closed. But continue to check with your local U.S. embassy.
Here is a COVID19 Travel Regulations map where you can click on your country to find out current travel restrictions.
Lastly, two universities in the U.S. have legally challenged this guidance. PAU is, along with many other schools and national associations, advocating against this guidance. I am continuing to issue I-20 forms.    We very much want all of you to join us at PAU.  I am here to support you in any way I can.
