Important: PAU classes going online - F-1 issues

Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone has seen the announcement regarding all PAU classes going online for the remainder of the winter quarter.

There is an F-1 regulation that limits F-1 international students to take only one online class each quarter.  However, online is defined as a class that is 100% online.  Classes that require a physical component for completion of the course (say exams in person, or in this case the first 9 weeks of the quarter) are not considered online.

Also, today the Student and Exchange Visitor Program that oversees SEVIS, sent out a notification that states "SEVP-certified schools may need to adapt their procedures and policies to address the significant public health concerns associated with the COVID-19 crisis.  In evaluating these changes, SEVP is focused on ensuring that nonimmigrant students are able to continue to make normal progress in a full course of study as required by federal regulations. SEVP intends to be flexible with temporary adaptations."

SEVP is requiring schools to notify them within 10 days of exercising temporary closure or making other significant operational or curricular changes.  We will notify them this week.  I will include a copy of this notification in each of your files, that can be used for any future immigration benefit (such as OPT) if needed to proof your maintenance of F-1 status.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
