Each year, a selected group of dedicated volunteers and community leaders are honored with the John Gardner Award for making a difference in improving our communities. They are awarded by the Los Altos Community Foundation for dedication to public service, education, government, science and technology, and arts and letters.

As the Chair of PAU's Board of Trustees, Mr. Otieno’s vision and leadership have helped the university flourish and grow. As the university has grown, so has its service to the local and global community. PAU would like to sincerely thank James Otieno for everything he does for Palo Alto University as well as the greater Bay Area community. He is an inspiration to us all.

From PAU President, Dr. Allen Calvin, “James is devoting the preponderance of his time to helping others achieve their dreams”.
