Interlibrary Loan Services
for PAU Students, Faculty, and Staff
PAU faculty, staff, and students may request books, journal articles and dissertations from other universities using interlibrary loan (ILL) through our membership in the National Library of Medicine's network and the OCLC worldwide library network.
To request interlibrary loans (ILL), register for an account with the ILLiad system using your PAU email logon credentials.
Please be advised that the Library’s ILL Department will not be processing requests during the Winter Break and will suspend operations beginning Wednesday, December 21, 2011. You may renew loaned items by signing into your ILLiad account and clicking on “Checked Out Items” under “View” on the left hand side of the screen. Any pending requests will be filled when the library reopens on January 3, 2012.
Here are some important changes that you will need to know:
- When searching for literature through Ebsco, you will now be directed to the ILLiad ILL system logon page when you click the link for "request through ILL." If you are not using a search database, you may logon to the ILLiad system using the link above, and enter your request by hand. Make sure you check first to make sure the item you need is not available through the PAU Library (check the journal list at http://atoz.ebsco.com/titles.asp?id=1467&TabID=2) or the Internet (e.g., in the case of open access journals). This will keep our ILL request volume down and speed processing. If you want more than one chapter from the same book, you should request a book loan, rather than submitting multiple chapter requests, to prevent processing delays.
- After you logon to your ILLiad account, you will be able to make requests, add notes, have access to your electronic copies for 30 days, and keep track of your borrowing history.
- You now will be able to make ten (10) requests per quarter for free; you will no longer need to pay for each request made. At the end of each quarter, all patrons will need to pay for any requests made in excess of 10. You will not be able to make further requests at the start of the next quarter until your fees from the previous quarter are paid. The fee for each request in excess of 10 will be $3.50.
- Please note that we must limit the number of interilbrary loan requests processed to 10 per week per person.
- Students are allowed 10 free requests per quarter. Faculty will be required to submit requests through their own accounts for privacy reasons.
- You must have an email ending in @paloaltou.edu to use our ILLiad system. Please check your PAU email periodically for notices about your ILL requests. It will not work with other email addresses.
- As usual, you may pay for your excess ILL requests using PayPal (account email is: paypal@paloaltou.edu.)
If you need an item quickly, please use alternative sources such as Link + (a free book delivery service), or Stanford. You may check out library cards and free borrowing coupons for Stanford’s Green Library at the PAU Library circulation desk.
To obtain items from another local library by visiting the library yourself, see the information on the following PAU Library webpage:
